Practice Experience

Laura's practice focus includes negotiating interconnection and master service agreements; solving issues concerned with developing and acquiring networks; dispute resolution involving inter-carrier compensation issues and joint use of carrier facilities; and negotiating agreements concerned with electronic payment processing.

Prior to launching Mayhook Law, PLLC, in September, 2001,Laura previously served as Associate General Counsel of PreNet Corporation (now PreCash), a Portland-based pre-IPO startup in the electronic payment transaction industry, where she focused on complex issues associated with the company's venture financing, as well as advised the company on a full range of transactional matters involving wireless carriers, national retailers, and payment processors.

From 1996 to 1998, Laura served as staff attorney at GST Telecom Hawaii, a facilities-based CLEC operating a fiber-ring network in downtown Honolulu and an inter-island submarine fiber network connecting Hawaii's six major islands. While based in Hawaii, Laura represented the company in various regulatory proceedings before the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission; guided the company's transactional matters involving carriers, vendors, local governments, contractors, and customers; and served on the board of the Hawaii TeleCommunications Association.

In 1999, following her promotion to Associate General Counsel of the Hawaii affiliate's parent company, Laura relocated to the company's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Washington, where she assumed added responsibilities relating to the company's SEC's compliance filings, proxy and annual meeting matters, and stock incentive plans. Laura graduated with a B.A. in Economics and History from Northwestern University in 1993, and, in 1996, received her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law, where she was a staff writer for the Journal of Corporation Law.
